Dorothy King slams British Museum for its decision to loan a Parthenon statue to Hermitage

“I am shocked and horrified by the Parthenon loan,” she says

Dorothy King, an American archaeologist and historian who lives and works in England accused on Friday the British Museum of hypocrisy, stating that its decision to loan one of the Parthenon marbles to the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg insults Greece.

According to an announcement released by the British museum, the headless statue of Greek river-god Ilissos, an imposing reclining male figure, will be on display at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia from December 6 to January 18, 2015 as part of the museum’s celebrations for its 250th anniversary.

“I am shocked and horrified by the Parthenon loan. Why is Putin’s Russia suitable when Democratic Greece has repeatedly been turned down?” asked the famous historian through her Twitter account.
