A father, 85, shot his son, 49, who had been institutionalized a number of times in the past, on Tuesday morning before putting an end to his own life at Vrahati, Corinth.

In a note, the father wrote about his decision to kill his son saying that he did it in order to save his younger child from the problems caused by his brother. “I acted this way in order to alleviate my second child from the heavy burden of caring for his brother,” the man wrote.

The man shot his older son five times and then he killed himself. Neighbors heard the shots and called the police, who found the two men lying dead.

“My father did not make this decision without thinking it over and over. Nobody kills his child just for fun. If he had told me, I would have done something to prevent him” the youngest son said.
