Farmakonisi: 47 relatives identify their dead

Four babies and eleven children are among the 34 bodies found following the shipwreck

Forty-seven relatives of victims of the shipwreck off the coast of the Greek islet of Farmakonisi on Sunday are being tasked with identifying the bodies being held at the hospital of Rhodes. The relatives arrived by ferry from Leros on Wednesday and went to the hospital on Thursday.

34 people died as a result of the boat capsizing during the dangerous crossing from Turkey. Among the dead are four babies and 11 children.

The cost of their transfer, food and accomodation is being covered by the Southern Aegean Prefecture.

Five Syrian and two Pakistani nationals were arrested as suspected traffickers and operators, appearing before the prosecutor on Kos on Wednesday, charged with committing a felony.
