Fotis Kouvelis resigns from DIMAR chairman

After his party’s extremely low numbers in the European Elections

Fotis Kouvelis filed his resignation from the position of chairman of DIMAR(Democratic Left) party, after his party failed to elect a MEP, gathering only a 1.3% rate in elections, on Sunday.

After the disapproval his party received at the European elections ballot box and the intense internal criticisms he received from his own members, Fotis Kouvelis seems to have forgone waiting for his party’s conference, and decided to resign.

Notably, everyone expected that, despite the electoral catastrophe his party underwent, Mr. Kouvelis would not give up the chairmanship of his party. Meanwhile, protothema.gr reported that the DIMAR president was thinking of putting his resignation up for approval by the body of his members during the meeting of the party’s Central Committee, next Saturday.

Next Saturday, Mr. Kouvelis will be speaking at the party’s Central Committee, during which there will be an extensive discussion on how to progress in the future.

The possibility of an emergency meeting of the party has been removed from the picture, while the organization of a Nationwide Conference or a Permanent Conference is more prevalent.
