GD leader responds to presidential candidate’s statements

The GD leader says the coalition government’s presidential candidate S. Dimas has nothing to worry about as his party would never vote for him

Jailed ultranationalist Golden Dawn (GD) leader Nikos Mihaloliakos on Wednesday responded to statements made by presidential candidate Stavros Dimas saying that “he shouldn’t worry” about being elected on the party’s votes because he “will not be elected anyway and, for sure, he will not be elected by votes of GD MPs”.

Mr. Dimas had said that “under no circumstances” would he accept to be elected as president with GD party’s votes, stating taht he would forfeit his right if he was elected by GD deputies.

Mr. Mihaloliakos, who signed his “response to the statement by the memorandum presidential candidate” as a “political prisoner” said that he was amazed by the fact that “Stavros Dimas, a minister of the Papademos government that imposed the infamous PSI which destroyed pensioners and bondholders would think that he could have the votes of the Golden Dawn nationalists.”

Mr. Mihaloliakos and a number of GD deputies are being held in prison while waiting to be tried on charges of running a criminal organization amongst other offences.
