Government spokesperson: The Greek people don’t pay more tax with ENFIA

"People in all countries pay taxes, there are no tax-free countries," said the government spokesperson

Newsroom September 1 01:29

Government spokesperson Sofia Voultepsi, talking to private SKAI TV on Monday, denied that people are paying more tax now with the new Single Property Ownership Tax, also known as ENFIA, compared to what they used to pay with EETIDE (Extra Special Tax for Electrified Structured Surfaces) in the previous years.

Ms. Voultepsi also commented on SYRIZA’s stance regarding taxation and it’s pledges, calling on them to present their plans. “SYRIZA is vague, speaks with ambiguities, does not say clearly what it intends to tax, they talks about ‘basic programmatic guidelines’, ‘basic axes’ and ‘key priorities’,” she noted.

“Every month, Greece pays 5 billion euros in pensions and public wages. People in all countries pay taxes,” Ms. Voultepsi added.

Regarding the negotiations with the troika in Paris, she underlined that emphasis will be given on reforms, adding that unilateral actions lead to situations similar to Argentina.

“We avoided dramatic situations that we don’t and can’t even imagine. All figures are positive, a primary surplus exists, spreads have fallen, Greek bonds perform well, international rating agencies upgrade the Greek economy, tranches of economic aid are disbursed, all prior actions agreed in order to negotiate the debt have been met,” Ms. Voultepsi underlined.
