Greek border guards fake civil partnerships (even between men) to get better posts in Evros, report claims

An investigation has been launched

Newsroom February 14 12:32

The Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, intervened following reports that dozens of border guards who were transferred to the Evros border in northern Greece had submitted a suspiciously large number of civil partnership applications to their services in order to qualify for a re-assignment to the Alexandroupoli Police Department.

According to reports, a disproportionate majority of 250 new border guards who were transferred to serve at the newly erected Evros fence had filed fake civil partnership applications to secure increase their chances of securing a post at the more favourable Alexandroupolis police department.

As stated in an official announcement of the Ministry of Citizen Protection:

“By order of the Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, from the Headquarters of the Hellenic Police, an administrative investigation is being conducted regarding allegations in publications regarding the signing of virtual cohabitation agreements by young border guards”.

According to information previously reported by Evros-news.gr, dozens of virtual Cohabitation Agreements have been signed, which exceed 100, from the 250 new border guards that have been hired, in order to secure the 5 points provided by the regulation and then to be placed in the Alexandroupoli Police Department.

The criteria for placement selection are their performance in written exams submitted, but also their grading in various practical tests and trials, during their basic training at the Didymoteicho Police Cadet School. Nevertheless, those who achieved a very good position based on the aforementioned, are not sure that they will be assigned to the Police Directorate of Alexandroupolis…

According to Evros-news.gr, almost half of the new border guards in order to be assigned to the Police Directorate Alexandroupolis and to live in the city, signed a Cohabitation Agreement in the last months. The information states that if not all, at least the vast majority of them are… fake as they have been signed after being hired.

The information even mentions that some young Border Guards are showing Cohabitation Agreements even with… elderly people over 60 years old(!) but there are also Cohabitation Agreements… between men!
