Greek Council of State (CoS) rules pensioners entitled to back payments

The government will make legislative intervention to fall in line with the ruling

Newsroom July 14 04:27

Retirees are entitled to receive retroactive pensions for an 11-month period between 2015 and 2016, according to a ruling by the Greek courts published on Tuesday.

For the period of eleven months (June 2015 to May 2016), retirees will be paid their pensions based on the decisions of the Plenary Session of the Council of State.

According to the decisions of the Supreme Court of Cassation, those pensioners who had already filed appeals claiming money equivalent to the slashes they had suffered in their payments for the above period of time would be eligible for back payments.

Retirees who have not yet appealed do not lose their right to claim back payments in courts.

The Government has the option to implement the necessary legislative amendments to fall in line with the Court ruling.
