Greek govt tackles humanitarian crisis in 2016

Series of measures being planned

The Greek government has passed measures to tackle the humanitarian crisis in 2016 in order to help the most vulnerable social groups. The legislative act signed on December 24 is aimed to show the government’s commitment to relieve those who have suffered the most as a result of the economic crisis.

The measures passed though the Legislative Act are:

– an extension to the law on tackling the humanitarian crisis in 2016

– expanding the health ministry’s ability to conduct audits to ministry-controlled public and private entities

– adjusting the refugee asylum precedure by adapting it to the challenges posed by the refugee crisis

– setting up a process for the chartering of vessels to assist in refugee emergencies

– establishing the operation of Centers of Temporary Accommodation for refugees

– setting up the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) as an independent advisory body to the state.
