Greek-owned cargo ship targeted by two missiles in the Red Sea

No reports of casualties or damage

A Greek-owned cargo ship flying the flag of the Marshall Islands reported being targeted by “two missiles” within 20 minutes off the coast of Yemen, a British private maritime security firm said today.

The missiles fell into the sea, “the crew is unharmed” and “heading for their next port of call,” Ambrey said of the incident in the Red Sea, where Yemen’s Houthi rebels have launched dozens of attacks since late last year on merchant ships they say are “linked” to Israel in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Earlier, Britain’s Maritime Safety and Security Agency (UKMTO) said it had received information of an “incident” in the Red Sea, some 40 nautical miles (74 kilometers) south of the Yemeni city of Al Moha.

It later reassured in turn, saying that although the ship was targeted by two missiles, it was not hit, the crew is unharmed and is continuing on its way to its next port of call.
