Greek Parliament: ND leader gives a resounding ‘No’ to the omnibus bill

The conservative ND leader accused the government coalition of being political fraudsters!

Main conservative opposition New Democracy (ND) interim leader Vangelis Meimarakis repeated his party’s intention to vote against the omnibus bill of prior actions which is being discussed by the Greek Parliament’s plenum.

“The main opposition (party) will not accept all those measures we managed to avoid when in government,” he told parliament in his statement concerning on the bill on Thursday. He said, however that the ND party will approve the articles which attempt structural reforms.

He accused the Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) of committing a “ruthless political fraud”. He said his party supported the July 22 agreement by voting targets and timetables, but added “these measures are yours. Vote for them yourself.”

Meimarakis also stressed that the new austerity measures bear the signature of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Defence Minister and junior coalition party leader Panos Kammenos of the Independent Greeks (ANEL). “Let the fairy tale that we voted for such these measures end here,” he said adding that the government will unleash a tax raid on people.

He said that ND lawmakers will only approve legislation that promotes growth, new investments and jobs and tackle corruption and undeclared labour.
