Greek tourism records exceptional numbers in 2022

The Tourism Minister said the country did well despite the adverse conditions

Newsroom October 18 05:16

2022 is described as a new milestone year for Greek tourism by the Greek tourism stakeholders, who today attended the event of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises, in Athens, for the presentation of the project “National Strategy for Greek Tourism 2030”.

“This year’s success in tourism is reflected in the revenues that return directly to the average Greek family and strengthen local communities and the national economy,” said Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias, on the sidelines of the SETE event.

Referring to the ELSTAT data for August, Kikilias pointed out that “the 23.4% and 13.6% increases in the revenues of accommodation and restaurants, respectively, in relation to August 2019, prove that the strategy of the Ministry of Tourism bore fruit despite this year’s adversities (war in Ukraine, inflation, high costs, etc.)

The Minister of Tourism also emphasised that efforts are continuing with the aim of supporting the tourism sector, catering, and small-medium businesses in the fall and the difficult winter ahead.

In his intervention, the Minister of Tourism pointed out that, despite the difficulties it had in 2022 – a result of the war in Ukraine – Greece managed to perform near record levels, compared to 2019, which is of particular significance, as he said. He revealed that this was achieved due to concerted efforts and the actions taken so that Greece is a safe country, something that was capitalised on this year as well, as he explained.
