Gruevski claims that citizens should decide on FYROM’s name

FYROM’s Prime Minister said that his country is ready to open a dialogue, but people should have the last word

“We are ready to discuss, to open dialogue with them, and to find some solution,” FYROM’s Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski  said in an interview with the Guardian claiming though that any decision should be based on public vote.

“We would like as soon as possible to go to dialogue with Greece to find a solution, and if we find a solution we have to go to the citizens and organise a referendum,” said Gruevski adding that “Through dialogue we have to find some solution, and after that to ask the citizens: is this right or not right?”

It is not a coincidence, though, that Mr. Gruevski’s statements on an issue which has been opened for 24 years were made a day before FYROM’s foreign minister Nikola Poposki’s visit to Athens for a meeting with his Greek counterpart, Nikos Kotzias.
