Yannis Ioannidis associated his name with the great Aris of the 1980s and then moved to Piraeus to take over Olympiacos, which he led to great glory.

He also coached AEK Athens and the national team. Yannis Ioannidis, who was known by the nickname “Xanthos”, participated 6 times in the Euroleague Final 4 but failed to make it to the top of Europe.

He reached the top four in Europe three times with Aris, two with Olympiacos, and one with AEK Athens.
