IMF: More labour reforms in Greece needed

The Fund repeats it will only be on board Greek program if debt reduction measures are adopted

IMF spokesperson Gerry Rice repeated the Fund would continue to participate in the Greek program only if their European partners committed to pushing measures that would ensure the reduction of the country’s huge debt. Rise made it clear that the organisation would not accept any back tracking on measures adopted already in the labour market, while he added that more changes are needed in the labour market. ‘The aim of negotiations is to align the labour legal framework with the best practices in Europe. Rise also said that the IMF board would discuss its report on the programs implemented in Greece and Portugal in July.
