Iranian forces board two Greek-owned Oil tankers in Persian Gulf

The Greek Ministry is expected to issue an official complaint

Iranian forces boarded two Greek-owned Crude Oil Tankers in the Persian Gulf on Friday.

At the moment it has not been possible for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Merchant Shipping to communicate with the ships, however, the Greek authorities are on alert in order to coordinate their actions.

According to the information, the vessels are the Delta Poseidon ships of the Delta Tankers company of Diamantis Diamantidis and the Prudent Warrior of the Polembros Shipping Limited company of interests of Spyros Polemis.

As it has become known so far, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is expected to take the steps to obtain more details about the incidents, while it is initially believed that it could be “payback” for the Russian ship that was transporting Iranian oil and which was confiscated in Karystos.

According to the information, there were 25 crew members onboard the Delta, of which two are Greeks, and in Warrior, there were 23 crew members of which 8 are Greeks and one Cypriot.

The Foreign Ministry of Greece issued a strong protest to the Iranian Ambassador in Athens condemning the “violent seizure” of the two Greek ships in Persia, which it described as an “act of piracy”. It advised Greek citizens to avoid traveling to Iran.
