ISIS/Daesh leaves devastation behind in ancient city of Palmyra (photos+video)

City recaptured by Syrian forces Sunday

The first photos of the devastation the ISIS/Daesh Islamist terrorists left behind at the ancient site of Palmyra have emerged, following the recapturing of the city by the Syrian Army of Bashar al Assad, Sunday. A Syrian military source said the whole city had been liberated from the terrorists, including the residential areas and the ancient city. Ancient monuments destroyed and smashed items lay all over the city’s museum floor. Palmyra, which has been characterised a World Heritage Monument by UNESCO saw fierce fighting over the past days when the last number of jihadists were trying to repel the advance of the Arab Syrian Army. UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon welcomed the recapturing of the city during a press conference in Jordan. Moon called on the next generations to protect the archaeological site.
