Latest refugee landing on … Mykonos

Cosmopolitan “A-list” isle usually off migrant smugglers’ ‘radar’

Forget the larger eastern Aegean islands which hug the coast of Asia Minor, a group of 40 people identified as Syrian nationals landed on … Mykonos on Friday.
Although foreign tourists arrive on Greece’s pre-eminent “party isle” by the hundreds of thousands every year, the latest batch of third country nationals that set foot on Mykonos were a “first” for the Cyclades island.
A sailboat carrying the Syrians was spotted late in the evening at the Tourlos beach by local residents.
Authorities were notified while local residents and businesses reportedly headed to the scene to offer food and water.
