Migrant children finally get same rights as Greek children.

Greece has finally adopted legislation that grants nationality to second generation children of foreign nationals living in Greece that attend or have attended school in the country. The draft legislation was approved on Thursday. The government’s minority party rejected the bill, but the legislation was approved with the support of the center-left opposition parties. The bill was passed with 172 votes in the 300-seat Parliament.

The new law is expected to benefit 200,000 second-generation immigrant many of whose parents arrived in Greece during a big migratory flow to Greece in the early 1990s. The Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) had pledged to offer full citizenship rights to migrant children bornand raised in Greece.
