Alt Migration Min: Be prepared for a large number of refugees

“This is a clear humanitarian crisis, perhaps the largest in Europe,” said president of Hellenic Red Cross

The situation is worse than the government describes with about 50,000 refugees and immigrants trapped in Greece, according to Hellenic Red Cross, the organization, that along with volunteers and other non-governmental organizations, lifts the burden of management the refugee problem, while the Greek government is absent and talks about 32,000 people trapped in the country.

“This is a clear humanitarian crisis, perhaps the largest in Europe, and must be addressed keeping a cool head,” said the president of Hellenic Red Cross Antonis Avgerinos speaking at MEGA TV channel.

However, Minister Theano Photiou, one of the ministers who are responsible for managing the refugee, insisted the refugees and immigrants amounted to 32,000 without, however, denying the Avgerinos’ estimate.

A few hours later, Alternate Minister for Migration Yiannis Mouzalas addressing SYRIZA Central Committee asked everyone to be prepared for a large number of refugees and immigrants in Greece.

In the meantime, 5,245 refugees and migrants are identified and ready to depart from the islands of the northeastern Aegean for the port of Piraeus.
