Mitsotakis: We are looking into resources to expand the ‘My Home’ program

The opposition's rhetoric remains unchanged. A clear position from Skopje regarding compliance with the Prespa Agreement, foreign policy is complex, not about selfies

Newsroom May 28 09:43

Prime Minister Mitsotakis announced plans to expand the ‘My Home’ program in an interview with Star news, stressing the need for appropriate funding. He criticized SYRIZA for echoing past financial mistakes and expressed expectations for Skopje to affirm the use of “North Macedonia.” Mitsotakis highlighted the importance of the upcoming European elections, explaining Greece’s strengthened position in Brussels. He condemned price discrepancies among multinationals and addressed economic challenges, emphasizing the need for fiscal responsibility amidst wage increases. Mitsotakis warned against repeating past financial crises, urging realistic solutions over unrealistic promises.

He further commented that the government is aiming towards price transparency in supermarkets and plans to raise the minimum wage to 950 euros in four years, emphasizing the importance of empowering consumers. Policies to support families include birth allowances and expanding nursery and school programs. Efforts to address housing issues include expanding the “My Home” program and imposing restrictions on Airbnb. Aging population policies are prioritized, with over 80,000 joining a pension platform. Stability is emphasized, rejecting accusations of arrogance and highlighting the challenges faced in the past. Regarding Turkish relations, the main issue is determining EEZ and continental shelf boundaries, with efforts to collaborate on immigration and NATO meetings.

Mitsotakis underlined the importance of Greek stability amidst regional conflicts, in the likes of the Prespa Agreement. The PM opposed rushing Palestinian state recognition, citing complexity in foreign policy beyond superficial gestures. Regarding sports, he sees Olympiacos as a potential winner in the Conference League. In his interview, he discusses the significance of the upcoming European elections and the impact of European initiatives like the Recovery Fund on Greece’s citizens, highlighting improvements in healthcare infrastructure.

Everyday concerns are tied to EU initiatives, like the Recovery Fund funding projects such as interactive school boards and health programs detecting breast cancer. Amidst global challenges, Greece’s strengthened position in Europe benefits its citizens through initiatives like border security and asylum policies. Despite skepticism, Greece has influenced EU policies, evidenced by interventions on multinational pricing disparities. Mitsotakis acknowledges economic challenges but contrasts current growth with past crises under different policies. Despite wage increases, inflation poses challenges, rooted in past economic crises.
