Mr. and Mrs. Papantoniou’s trial adjourned for June, 2015

The couple has already been charged for the submission of inaccurate wealth statements for 2009, and now the other years are being looked into

Former socialist PASOK minister Yiannos Papantoniou and his spouse Stavroula Kourakou have had their trial adjourned to June 8, 2015. The couple is on trial for submitting inaccurate wealth statements in 2008.

Both Mr. Papantoniou and Ms. Kourakou were sentenced to four-year prison terms earlier this week as a result of the inaccurate assets statement for the 2009 fiscal year. They were offered the option of buying off their sentences at 10 euros per day, hwoever the court ruled that this would be suspended if an appeal was filed.

The couple also has to pay a fine of 10,000 euros each and 50,000 euros were awarded to the state for moral damages.

The Appeals Justices Council will rule on whether the couple should be indicted for their 2010 wealth statements as well over the next few days for which the law is different as the offence of submitting an inaccurate wealth statement had been upgraded from a misdemeanour to a crime.
