“Naked Athena” faces off with Portland Police (videos)

This cheeky protester gave cops in Portland a public dressing-down

Newsroom July 20 09:22

This cheeky protester gave cops in Portland a public dressing-down.

Wearing only a face mask and a beanie, a woman dubbed “Naked Athena” waltzed between officers and protesters during a standoff in the city on Friday night, according to Oregon Live.

Video posted on social media shows the woman pacing the sidewalk, before sitting down and launching into a series of yoga and ballet poses.

“Everyone seemed surprised and kind of astounded,” said Dave Killen, a photographer for The Oregonian/OregonLive.

Photos Killen took of the full-frontal demonstration quickly went viral.

He said officers shot pepper balls at the woman’s feet, and that another protester ran in front of her with a homemade shield, but she sidestepped him.

The officers left about 10 minutes after the nude woman showed up, Killen said.

“She was incredibly vulnerable,” he told the outlet. “It would have been incredibly painful to be shot with any of those munitions with no clothes on.”
