National Museum of Contemporary Art receives large grant from SNF

SNF board of directors approved a 3-million-euro grant to the EMST for the immediate completion of rebuilding work at the museum’s building

As SNF announced on Tuesday, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) board of directors approved a 3-million-euro grant to the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST) for the immediate completion of rebuilding work at the museum’s building, the former Fix Brewery.

The grant will support the update and implementation of the museological study, as well as the purchase and installation of the necessary general and specialized equipment, an SNF announcement underlined, adding that it also covers the presentation cost of the museum’s permanent collections, including the configuration of the exhibition space and the transportation and installation of the artworks.

With the completion of the restoration of the museum building, Athens will have one of the most state-of-the-art and best equipped museum venues in Greece, where both the Greek public and foreign tourists will have the opportunity to discover the history and international dimension of contemporary Greek art, the announcement noted.

SNF Board of Directors co-president Andreas Dracopoulos commented that the grant “is part of the Foundation’s initiatives to support the country’s important cultural institutions”.
