ND leader Mitsotakis: Government should stop practising “secret diplomacy”

New Democracy leader calls for government to fully inform opposition party

The leader of Greece’s major opposition party New Democracy (ND), Kyriakos Mitsotakis called on the Greek government to stop employing secret diplomacy on the sensitive issue of the name dispute with FYROM. Commenting on news that Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia’s Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov will meet with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzas on Thursday, Mr. Mitsotakis called for a responsible and briefing on the part of the government to the major political party of the country.

“I also ask the government to stop dividing the Greeks and stop identifying people who have a particular sensitivity to the issue of the name of Skopje, with the extreme right. These policies do not benefit national understanding and consent that is so essential to addressing a crucial national issue”, the leader of the main opposition party said in his statement.
