A well-known Dutch journalist, who specializes in criminal cases and had repeatedly received threats against his life, was seriously injured when shot on Tuesday night in Amsterdam.

The Dutch Prime Minister described the attack as “shocking”. “The attack on Peter R. de Vries is shocking and unthinkable, it is an attack on a courageous journalist and therefore an attack on freedom of press, which is fundamental to our democracy and the rule of law”, Mark Rutte said during a press conference he gave.
