New state-of-the-art museum for isle of Delos

A modern, large facility planned for iconic isle

A new museum on the uninhabited Cyclades isle of Delos http://goo.gl/vgiOYP , a veritable outdoor museum a short boat ride away from cosmopolitan Myconos, will be funded by the International Foundation for Greece, a foundation established in London by benefactors George and Aspasia Levendis.

According to the plans, the biggest part of the new museum must located underground and will follow bioclimatic architecture standards. Another condition is for its location as far from the sea as possible, in order to better preserve both the antiquities therein, and to boost structural integrity.

The facility will be at least 5,000 sq.m. in size and feature all the state-of-the-art amenities enjoyed by modern museums.

The new museum will contain all of the current facility’s displayed artifacts as well as items in storage or still located outside amid the isle archaeological sites.
