“If we do not take any measures, we will face Armageddon”, Deputy Minister of Social Security Anastasios Petropoulos warned speaking to MEGA TV channel. But, “we are not going to cut, just like that, the pensions of people,” he clarified.

Mr. Petropoulos explained a significant deterioration in the insurance fund has been recorded over the last five years. Therefore, it is necessary to take immediately measures to ensure its viability, he stressed.

He also denied the scenarios on providing pension based on income criteria, clarifying that “we are not going to cut, just like that, the pensions of people”, but there would be a link between the pensions and the contributions.

Moreover, Mr. Petropoulos revealed that the Ministry of Labour is considering imposing an extraordinary contribution to self-employed so as to enhance the insurance fund.
