Summertime but the living’s not easy for cash-strapped Greeks who have seen their earnings plummet as a result of the economic crisis. For many Athenians, a quick dip at a local beach around Attica is about as far away as they can afford to go on this year’s vacation. So if you’ve been to Mykonos, Santorini, Corfu and other island hotspots and are wondering where all the Greeks are vacationing perhaps you should hobnob with the locals at Edem (meaning “Eden”, as in Paradise) Beach at Paleo Faliro that’s easily accessible by Metro and has no admission fee to pay for sea, sand and sun. And, after a dip, why not have a bite to eat at one of the fish taverns with wooden tables on the sand? It doesn’t get simpler than that!
