The island’s religious past crowns the island with the Monastery of Saint John “the Theologian” viewed from everywhere. It is overwhelming and a constant reminder of the spiritual. Once inaccessible, the island was where Christ’s disciple, Saint John the Divine, ws exiled and this is the place where he wrote the “Book of Revelations”. It’s hard to imagine how a book full of foreboding and destruction could be written on an island so beautiful and peaceful that it was voted by Forbes magazine as “Europe’s Most Idyllic Place to Live”.
