PM announces 2,000-euro compensation for snowbound motorists on Attiki Odos (photos)

The money will be paid out by the private company

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis requested compensation of 2,000 euros for each vehicle that was trapped on Attiki Odos from the concession company of Attiki Odos.

After the chaos caused yesterday by the bad weather “Elpis”, the PM demanded compensation for the people who suffered on the main road, where thousands of vehicles were trapped.

He contacted the management of the company of Attiki Odos and requested the payment of the amount of 2000 euros per trapped vehicle, a request to which the company agreed.

The Prime Minister chaired a meeting attended by the Minister of Environment and Energy Costas Skrekas, the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Christos Stylianidis, the Ministers of State George Gerapetritis and the Minister Lefyros Lefkonos Representative Giannis Oikonomou, the General Secretary of the Prime Minister Grigoris Dimitriadis and the CEO of HEDNO Anastasios Manos.

The situation was assessed at the meeting and decisions were made to address the problems that continue to exist from bad weather.

In an announcement, Attiki Odos announced the provision of 2,000 euros per trapped vehicle, adding that “after the release of the last driver, the company will take a position on the events and responsibilities to each body involved.”

The technical details of the procedure will be announced at a later stage, once the registration of all vehicles is completed by the competent authorities.
