PM Mitsotakis: Elections in 2023 – Penalties for sports-related gang violence without parole (video)

The solidarity contribution for all is abolished by 2023

Newsroom February 12 11:30

Changes in the existing framework in order to put an end to sports-related gang violence and the abolition of the solidarity contribution for all from 2023, announced, among others, the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, speaking to SKAI and journalist Giorgos Aftias.

The Prime Minister appeared determined to put an end to hooliganism, saying that the teams are also responsible.

Referring to the murder of 19-year-old Alkis, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said characteristically “I was shocked by the crime in Thessaloniki”, adding that if the problem of hooliganism is not solved now, it will never be solved.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis even announced a toughening of the sentences for those arrested from next week. As he said, the punishments that will be imposed will be without parole since “it is better for someone to go to prison for a while than for him to be punished and still be able to move freely”.

Continuing, the Prime Minister stressed that among the changes that will be made will be that of entering the gates of organized fans in the stadiums only with a season ticket. “We have a stricter framework than 2019, but too many fan clubs are operating out of control and that is going to change”, he promised.

The Prime Minister, regarding the wave of increased prices, assured that the government will continue to support those who need it with continuous interventions.

“We will provide support for as long as it takes”, he said, adding that he hoped there would be a de-escalation in energy prices by spring. Measures to support the bills to deal with the energy crisis will continue in March and April, the prime minister said.

Explaining why the government is step by step supporting households, he said that any support must take into account market data and prices in order for the aid to be targeted.

“The policy of this government is for permanent measures. Beyond that, I will insist that the implementation of the budget is a non-negotiable priority and if, I emphasize, if we take measures, these measures will not be horizontal, we do not discuss horizontal tax cuts, they will be targeted”, he said.

At the same time, he announced the abolition of the solidarity contribution from 2023 for all.

Regarding the minimum wage, he noted that the increase will be large and it will take place from May 1, since the consultation with the social institutions must be completed. The Prime Minister also stressed that the increase will be such that it will also take into account the capabilities of small and medium enterprises.
