Political leaders meet on refugee issue

Prime Minister is expected to inform the opposition on the latest developments and the government’s position on the refugee flows

The President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, will chair a meeting between the leaders of the Greek political parties on Friday at 12:00 at the presidential mansion.

The meeting was scheduled after the request of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to inform the opposition on the latest developments and the government’s position on the refugee flows.

Although forming national policy on dealing with the refugee issue is a wishful thinking for all, the political confrontation between the government and the opposition parties does not leave any room for consensus at today’s meeting.

The opposition parties, New Democracy, PASOK, Potami, criticize government’s stance, which has exacerbated the problem and isolated Greece from the rest of European countries, but they also disagree with the government on basic points of refugee policy.
