Privatisations could be an issue of renegotiation

Alternate Rural Development Minister Paris Koukoulopoulos’ statements

Privatisations affecting the Public Power Corporation S.A. (PPC S.A.), Athens Water and Sewage Company (EYDAP S.A.) and Thessaloniki Water Supply and Sewerage S.A. (EYATh) could be an issue of renegotiation, according to Alternate Rural Development Minister Paris Koukoulopoulos.

Speaking on the radio station VIMA FM, he noted that roughly 300,000 people voted in the informal referendum against the privatisation of EYATh and the fact that it was not held according to the letter of the law does not mean that the issue should not be reexamined. “Water is not the same as the Horse Racing Betting Organization and the state lotteries,” he underlined.

He also said that the country, having achieved primary surplus, has acquired a greater degree of independence adding that “we should look at the government policy priorities”.
