Pro-Russian separatists attack Ukrainian Luhansk international airport

The situation in the area remains as deadly as it ever was

Pro-Russian separatists attacked Luhansk’s international airport on Saturday night and Sunday morning, according to a Ukrainian military source.

“It was obvious that they were trying to destroy the building that provides electricity for the airport. Noone was injured on our side”, said a Ukrainian paratrooper and added that “it was the first time that this kind of attack against the airport took place”.

The Pro-Russian separatists declared a “Republic of Luhansk” in May, to match the “Republic of Donetsk”.

Deadly battles pit Ukrainian and Pro-Russian forces against each other in several cities in the two regions.

The international Donetsk airport was a theater of deadly conflict in late May.
