Protests turn violent in Thessaloniki

Property owners are devastated for losing their houses for a very small debt

Riots between protesters whose properties have been brought to auction and police have occurred in the Courthouse of Thessaloniki. Police forces have forbidden to the protesters to enter the hall where the property auctions are conducted.  Civilians forced their entrance, so the procedure could be stopped. A young man is said to have been arrested by the police . The property auctions have begun on Wednesday again, after last week’s dramatic events. The tension was big and the shields and helmets were necessary in order for the police forces to be protected. On Wednesday, it is scheduled for 25 properties to be brought to auction only in Athens, one of which is being auctioned for a debt of 27,000 Euros.  Last week a family lost its apartment in Athens only for 10, 214 Euros while a two floor house in Lavrio was auctioned because of a debt of 9,996 Euros.
