Social media is abuzz since user comments state that she didn’t deserve the title for not being a “pure-blooded” Japanese woman.
Her mother is an African-American and her father is Japanese.
Miyamoto was born and grew up in Japan. She studied in the USA and has a masters in Japanese calligraphy.
Her caramel complexion was the anti-thesis to the milky-white skin of her opponents, which generated several thinly veiled racist remarks.
