Red Cross: Ebola can be restricted within the following four to six months

According to a prediction of the head of the NGO the spread of the epidemic will be stopped if the right steps are made – Travel embargo is ‘absurd’ he adds

The deadly Ebola virus which so far has caused the lives of 4.500 people, could be limited within the following four to six months, as long as the necessary steps are taken.

General Secretary of the International Committee of the Red Cross made the above prediction and pointed out that with the isolation and right treatment of those infected from Ebola, as well as with proper burial rites of those who have died from the virus, the time frame of six months is enough.

At the same time, he characterized travel embargo as “absurd” and he highlighted that the epidemic will not be addresses by closing the borders and the ban on flights.

While speaking to journalists in Beijing, he stressed that:  “Ebola causes excessive fear and panic that sometimes lead to very irrational behavior measures such as border closures, cancellation of flights, isolation of countries”.

Finally he concluded by stressing that: “Those are not the right solutions. The only solution is try reducing this type of viruses and epidemics where originated”.
