Schaeuble: June 30 deadline if Greece wants to ‘avail itself’ of funds in current program

He also charged that the new leftist Greek government has destroyed previous progress

German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble on Wednesday was asked about new deadline for reaching a deal on the “Greek issue”, and what that deadline was, to which he replied that if the leftist Athens government wants to “avail itself” of available funds (approximately seven billion euros) it must reach an agreement by June 30.

His comments came during Bloomberg TV appearance and an interview with reporter Brendan Greeley.

Earlier on Wednesday he said no one expects a solution for Greece at the next Eurogroup meeting later this month.

Moreover, addressing a conference in New York, the German FinMin underlined that Greece is currently in a very difficult position.

According to the Schaeuble, the biggest problem the leftist Greek government faces is not its debt but its inability to compete with the other countries in the Eurozone. In fact, he reportedly called Greece a “bottomless pit, without being competitive.”

Furthermore, Schaeuble said the current Greek government has “destroyed” previous progress. He also foresaw that the ECB’s QE would weaken the euro and stressed that the eurozone has overcome the crisis and that there is no possibility of contagion in case of a Greek default.
