Serres tragedy: Double murder of father and son investigated

Police have not ruled out any of the possible scenarios for the murder

The bodies of a pensioner, aged 72, and his son, aged 27, were found at Serres, the second-largest Greek city in Macedonia, northern Greece. The bodies were found at 10 p.m. on Tuesday on the first floor of a two-storey building at 59 Ionos Dragoumi Street, Serres. The victims’ daughter and sister found the bodies and immediately alerted ambulance services and the police.

The first coronary findings show that both men suffered multiple knife wounds. The older man, a retired pharmacist, was found in a pool of blood in the open-space sitting room-kitchen whereas the son was found in the first floor entrance area.

The police are trying to solve the riddle and a number of possible scenarios are being investigated. The possibility of a burglary is being ruled out as there were no traces of a forced entry nor signs of theft.

Police are also exploring as to whether a fight had broken out between the father and son, as the latter faced psychological problems and had been treated at a psychiatric clinic in the past.

Another possibility is the case of a third person who knew the victims entering the hosue and murdering them. The third scenario is the one gaining ground as the knife used to stab both victims has yet to be found.
