Sudan: A C-130, a C-27J and 15 commandos go to Egypt to evacuate Greek citizens

The personnel will be stationed in Egypt

The Greek authorities are on alert and in constant communication with the other member states of the European Union, in order to deploy forces go to Sudan and free the Greek and Cypriot citizens who have requested to leave the war-torn country.

Allied nations such as the US, Italy, Spain, France, Turkey, and Belgium have already launched operations to evacuate their trapped citizens from Khartoum and other areas of Sudan, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Defence Ministry, on the order of Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has dispatched aircraft and personnel (medical and military) to Sudan’s neighbour, Egypt, who will be ready to operate for the evacuation.

The relevant announcement was made earlier on Sunda by Nikos Dendias, while according to information, two transport aircraft (a C-130 and a C-27J ), along with 15 commandos of the Special Warfare Command, will be stationed in Egypt this afternoon for aircraft safety. Medical personnel with the necessary equipment and the director of the A8 Division of Sub-Saharan African Countries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Konstantinos Soulios, will also leave for Egypt.

Regarding the situation in Sudan and the request of the Greek and Cypriot citizens to be rescued from the country, which is in the middle of a civil war, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, explained his position during an emergency briefing on Sunday morning.

According to what Mr. Dendias mentioned, it was decided by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to relocate Air Force aircraft and Army Special Forces personnel to Egypt to participate in a possible operation to rescue Greek and Cypriot citizens.
