Syria: Seven children dead due to cold weather

At least 11 people have lost their lives from hypothermia in areas controlled by rebels

In the space of one week at least 11 people, including 7 children have lost their lives suffering from hypothermia in areas controlled by rebels in Syria, due to a severe snow storm.

On Sunday, the Syrian Human Rights Observatory had announced that four people died within 24 hours, including a two-day old baby and two young girls, in areas under the control of militants who are fighting against the forces of President Bashar al-Assad.

The victims died of hypothermia as they did not have heating, while a fierce cold wave continues to sweep through the country.

According to an announcement by a non-government organization, yet another seven people lost their lives, suffering from hypothermia, on the same day, including the twin sister of the baby north of Aleppoand three boys near Damascus in the eastern and southern Syria.

Temperatures in Syria fell way below zero during the night, while hundreds of thousands of people have deserted their homes due to the fighting, living in difficult conditions and have very little protection from extreme weather events, not to mention that they have very little food and medical  supplies.
