SYRIZA leader to his MPs: This summer we won’t have time to go to the beach

He requested and forecast elections in autumn – He spoke of secret transactions for the election of the President of the Hellenic Republic

Speaking at the first meeting of the SYRIZA parliamentary group and the newly elected SYRIZA MEPs after the triple elections on May 25, party leader Alexis Tsipras stated that the procedure for the election of the new President of the Republic in the spring of 2015 will be a landmark in the political life of the country.

Mr. Tsipras spoke of secret transactions for the election of the President of the Hellenic Republic, as he believes that the government is fathoming the intentions of MPs outside the parliamentary groups of the coalition government parties, New Democracy and PASOK and may attempt to buy off their vote.

“This summer we won’t have time to go to the beach”

Alexis Tsipras requested and forecasted elections in the autumn.
“This summer we won’t have time to go to the beach. The parliamentary group must be present. It won’t be a relaxing time, but a critical summer that will be followed by elections,” he said and presented two options for the following months: either new tough measures will be implemented in autumn and those appointed by Germany will undertake the debt negotiations or there will be a new government with a fresh mandate from the people, which will be responsible to negotiate with lenders.

He also harshly criticised the choice of Yannis Stournaras as the next Bank of Greece governor and noted that “we will not be watching them destroy the country, playing with people, institutions and democracy without doing anything.”

Moreover, he forecast that the government is preparing a new memorandum based on various excuses, such as the funding gap or the new haircut of debt.

Finally, he accused Prime Minister Antonis Samaras of escalating the tension and increasing political instability instead of reinforcing the smooth functioning of democracy.
