SYRIZA officials leave open possibility of collaboration with Potami, ND

SYRIZA leader A. Tsipras kicks off his campaign in Crete on Tuesday

The Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) is losing its steam as key officials have left open the possibility of collaborating with centrist Potami or socialist PASOK following the elections on September 20.

The first polls may have confirmed a slight edge of the leftist party over the main opposition New Democracy party, however it seems unlikely that SYRIZA will have a majority. At this point, obtaining 151 seats is a distant dream for both leading parties.

Many SYRIZA frontline officials – such as Nikos Voutsis and Olga Gerovasili – fear that the party’s tacit refusal to work with bailout parties could backfire, bearing in mind the conservatives steady willingness to forge collaborations and co-govern.

The party’s turn was confirmed on Monday when former SYRIZA state minister Nikos Pappas told ThePressProject that, without a clear mandate, all possibilities are open following the elections.

Meanwhile, SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras kicks off his nationwide election campaign on Tuesday from Crete where he is visiting the twons of Chania and Rethymno.
