SYRIZA to independent MPs and DIMAR’s MPs: “We are open for business!”

SYRIZA seeks allies to block the election of President of Hellenic Republic and go for elections

Alexis Tsipras, the leader of the main opposition party SYRIZA, on Sunday addressed the party’s Central Committee raising two dilemmas and calling on its members to decide whether they will let the government get worn out or try to cause early polls by preventing the election of a new Greek President.

But, in order to succeed this, SYRIZA needs the support of DIMAR’s MPs and independent MPs.

The party has two strategic options, Tsipras said. The one is to let the government get worn out, which could take until 2016 and have a catastrophic impact on the country. The second one is to try and cause early elections within 2014, an option that was supported by Tsipras himself.

He added that preventing the election of the President is an important decision that cannot be done on a central and institutional level but based on political and other initiatives. In this context, SYRIZA will take initiatives according to its policy commitments, he said citing as an example the gathering of signatures on the submarines issue.

Mr Tsipras said that “We want to set up a large, progressive, patriotic, democratic, radical alliance to topple the current situation and regardless of what choices each MP has made until now, he is welcomed in this alliance, if at the presidential election he chooses to overthrown the current government”.

However, not everyone in SYRIZA agrees with this tactic. But, SYRIZA’s Central Committee approved by majority the draft policy plan, which was in the line of Tsipras’ strategy.
