Greece on Red Alert as storm-force winds hit Aegean on August 15

Nearly half of Greece’s regions are on high alert because of the strong winds, with a major risk of wildfires. When will the strong meltemi winds subside?

Volatile combination of high winds and soaring temperatures on Friday: Attica and two other regions on red code for wildfire risk

Winds are forecast to locally reach up to 9 on the Beaufort scale, with the strongest gusts expected over eastern Central Greece, the Peloponnese and the north-western Cyclades. Civil Protection on standby

Gale-force winds to batter Greece for 48 hours, disrupting ferries as temperatures drop up to 7C

The most extreme gusts are forecast for southwestern Boeotia, northern Attica and Evia on Thursday, then southern Evia and southwestern Andros on Friday, as fire-weather danger keeps rising across Greece over the next two days

Greece weather: Heat persists with highs of 36°C, local showers inland and stronger meltemi winds in the Aegean

Temperatures will gradually rise across the country, while isolated showers are expected in parts of mainland Greece
