Tax evasion reigns supreme on Greek islands

Tax officials conducted surprise spot checks and were surprised by what they found

Tax officials have recorded widespread tax evasion in hotels, restaurants and bars in the Aegean and Ionian islands after conducting spot checks.

63 inspections carried out over the last days just in Heraklion, Crete, showed 33 violations by 39 offenders.

The new Alternate Finance Minister Tryfon Alexiadis has already prepared a ministerial decision that outlines the procedures to be followed during inspections throughout the summer aiming at combating tax evasion.
