It is the biggest port in the country, the only transit hub of Southeast Europe and one of the major marine stations worldwide.
And yet the city of Piraeus, as it has become under Vasilis Michaloliakos authority, is the worst form of a city, which does not exist not even at the most decadent nations around the world.
The photos from today’s reportage of parapolitika.gr speak for themselves. Words cannot describe the stench radiated by the mould, the dirt, the rotten foundations of abandoned historical monuments such as the Urban Walls and the 1st Elementary School.
Cannot describe the miserable souls who “creep” like moles among the garbage, the smuggled goods and the sordid squares.
Even at Maniatika, this proud neighbourhood on which Michaloliakos is trying to impose himself, the abandonment looks like the naked fire.
A fire which devastates consciences and fills with frustration the souls of those who live in the neighbourhoods of Piraeus and those few who still visit it.
In 2014 Piraeus can be compared with the kind of city the Germans oppressors left behind them. Bombed by adequacy and indifference.
