An ode to Greek Playboy!

The news that Playboy has decided to cover up its models dampened the wet dreams of every school boy. “Has Hugh Hefner lost his mind?” whispered men around the world.

Here are some of the most iconic Playboy issues of Greece:

1980’s

In the Eighties, Playboy undressed the likes of actresses Zoe Laskari and Mary Chronopoulou, as well as singers Dimitra Galani and Paulina.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1990’s

The Nineties decade was not without its surprises as Playboy stripped down Maria Ioannidou, Katerina Stanisi, Angie Samiou, Eleni Erimou, former minister Angela Gerekou in the one and only nude photo shoot as well as video film star Stamatis Gardelis surrounded by Mexican models!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2000 onwards

Interesting facts about Greek Playboy:

The first Greek issue appeared on April 1985 – sold for 240 drachmas (that’s less than a euro!)

* Zoe Laskari was the first Greek nude to appear in a magazine for the issue of October 1985. She was photographed on the isle of Dilos by photographer Dinos Diamantopoulos.

* The 1987 shoot with Paulina was shot in Kenya and Seychelles and was a huge hit as it coincided with the song “Seychelles”!

* Model/actress Vana Barba was shot in Portugal at the height of her career, Eleni Erimou also posed in south Portugal.

* In Greece, singer George Gerolymatos was the first man who appeared half-dressed for the New Year’s Greek issue in 1990.

* Writer Christos Homenidis’ published his first short story on Greek Playboy in 1988.

* The Dutch and Greek Playboy issues were at odds in 2010 after photos from Greece’s Playboy issue of April 2008 were pubiched in the Dutch version. The hpotographs featured model Olga Farmaki. The Greek magazine issued a statement claiming that these photos were not shot in collaboration with the Dutch magazine and should not have been used on their cover two years after the photographs were shot.
