Thursday’s strike: Public transport stoppages

Your guide to public transport during Thursday’s strike

A 24-hour general strike on Thursday will affect public transport. Work stoppages will be held at the start and end of shirfts, though services will continue to run in the middle of the day so that people can participate in strike rallies.

The suburban train line Proastiakos that serves the airport will not be available, whereas some services are to be cancelled on Wednesday and Friday. The metro system and Athens electric Piraeus-Kifissias line will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will not be available for morning and afternoon commuters. Tram workers are striking from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be buses and trolleys from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Greek air traffic controllers are taking part in the strike that will also cause problems to the country’s airport schedule.

The strike has been called by Greece’s private sector union GSEE and public sector group ADEDY in protest against the austerity measures in the 2015 budget.
